Originally from Nairobi, Chef Ben Nyaga is a rising star in Kenya’s cuisine scene. In his earlier years he was heavily influenced by both his mother and late brother – once a Head Chef in Dubai at the Bin Hendi - who fuelled his culinary dream. After working an array of odd jobs and running his own business, Chef Nyanga enrolled at Top Chef’s Culinary Institute to train in Culinary Arts.
Soon he finished studying (while working part-time), and became a commi-cook at Mandari, in the Nairobi Serena Hotel. From there he moved to The Norfolk, where he was promoted to Junior Sous Chef after only two years. He is currently Junior Sous Chef at the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.
To this day, Chef Nyaga believes in continuously challenging himself to grow professionally. In his spare time he enjoys nyama choma, chapatti, homemade pasta dishes, motorbike rides, trying out new restaurants and spending time with his young family.
